Database Administrator

Location
Kelso, WA. Columbia Analytical - Kelso is the largest laboratory in the network with over 50,000 square feet of laboratory and support space. Kelso is a scenic corner of SW Washington ideally situated 145 miles south of Seattle and 50 miles north of Portland along the I-5 corridor. With a comfortable rural life style and small-town character, residents are removed from urban congestion, yet have ample access to city amenities and abundant year-round outdoor activities (hiking, fishing, hunting, skiing, kayaking, wind sailing, boating, camping, etc.).

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Analyze existing Oracle 10g table structures/relationships, and application SQL statements, looking for ways to optimize performance, reliability, and fault tolerance.
- Design database schemas to support new applications and software functionality.
- General database administration, patch applications, backup/recovery, monitoring, security, and health assessment to insure mission critical business applications remain available 7x24x365.
- Data Warehousing and Data Mining development.
Required Education, Skills, and Qualifications
- BS in Computer Science or related field. Demonstrated 5+ years of experience installing/administrating an Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition RDBMS in a Linux environment. Experience with Oracle RMAN.
- Demonstrated experience integrating Oracle databases with multi-tier, multi-threaded, distributed, enterprise-level software applications designed for maximum scalability/extensibility.
- Ability to quickly diagnose and proactively determine performance issues related to the database or application code (C#, Visual Basic 6).
- Outstanding organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to total quality and the process of continuous improvement.
- Energetic, self motivated, open-minded and flexible team player who can work effectively and cooperatively with cross-functional teams.
- Oracle OCP Certification and Linux Administration skills are a plus, but demonstrated practical knowledge is more important.
- Experience with Oracle PL/SQL
- Experience with Microsoft SQL*Server.
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking principles and multi-tiered client/server and web architectures.
