Deployment and Retrieval of Passive Diffusion Bags (PDBs) in Groundwater Wells

Video Transcript:

1. This video will show you how to deploy and retrieve Passive Diffusion Bags (PDBs).
2. PDBs are used in the sampling of groundwater for Volatile Organic Compounds
3. When you order a PDB device from Columbia Analytical, we can provide a hanging assembly that is labeled and presized to hang at the correct depth of your well screen.
4. This is a standard size PDB prefilled with 220ml of certified ASTM type 2 DI water.
5. Connect the bag to the top clip of the line.
6. Then, secure at the bottom using a zip tie.
7. Lower into well- the stop cap will set the bag at the desired depth.
8. The PDB is now deployed.
9. Retrieval is just as easy as deployment.
10. After a minimum of 2 weeks, retrieve the line using the plastic winder.
11. Unclip the top of the bag and cut the bottom zip tie.
12. Using decontaminated scissors, cut a notch in the corner of the bag.
13. Slowly pour the water into VOA vile; minimize agitation and ensure no headspace is left.
14. Samples are then made ready for transport to the lab.
15. PDBs are easy to use and cost effective.
